We're buying a piano. . .
maybe.
We took the kids out last night to Schmitt Music in Rochester last night and looked at pianos. We thought at first that we should go for one of those free deals in the paper you often see and then have it moved and tuned, but we realized that after all that we would end up with a piano that cost us $500, it probably wouldn't be worth anything. The one we are looking at is a Kimball. It's gonna come in right at about $1200 with moving and tax, which I think is a good deal. They had it listed at $1295 but the thing had been there since last fall. Who knows why. It looked great, sounded great, and the insides were very clean. Bob the salesman said that the piano was on consignment from a doctor in town (people in Rochester always say that things used to be owned by doctors) who was trading up to a Grand. Who knows. Anyway, we gave them an offer and when they took it we said we'd measure the space. It will fit perfectly. Of course, Kimball also makes Office Furniture, so if doesn't play well, we could put the computers on it.
Tonight we'll head back there one more time to play all the keys, check to make sure that the action is light (better for smaller children to learn on a piano that doesn't require them to press hard on the keys) and do our best to check for any other problems. Sandy would like it so that the kids can learn to play and in the future, be able to accompany her on the Violin. I want one because I would like to learn to play Beethoven. We'll see what happens. Pictures to come...
