Might not happen.

After reading the following at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redemption_Status, it sounds less likely like it will be easy for me to cherry pick my old domain name once it finally gets expired:

It's most likely the Registrar will simply "buy" the domain name internally and move it over to one of their affiliate auction sites, who will then auction the domain name to the highest bidder.

My old domain name was harvested by some jerks at "Kenyatech" in February of last year, and now it is in Redemption Status. At first I was like, 'Awesome, now I can get my domain back!" and started planning my new website, but now I'm thinking that it might not happen.

Just another case of not counting chickens I guess. Oh well, kurtlovessandy.com is still available. :-)
