Complaint Description:
I bought a pair of Used Ice Skates at Play it Again Sports in Rochester, and wanted to get a new pair of laces. The sales person told me that they had them at Blades to Ballet. I went to Blades to Ballet to buy them.

While I was picking out my laces, the owner of the store (I believe) called over to me and asked me if I had bought my skates at Play it Again Sports. I said I had. She said something like:

"I highly suggest that you have us sharpen your skates for you."

I told her that they had sharpened them for me.

She then said something to the effect of:

"Well i highly suggest that you have us sharpen us for you because they do not know what they are doing over there."

I told her that I thought they seemed sharp and that they were fine.

She then insinuated that my daughter would not learn to skate properly because she would be skating on improperly sharpened skates.

I thought this was highly unprofessional because:

1. The sales person never even saw my skates so she would not know if they had been sharpened or not.
2. I had not asked her for assistance and I said I was comfortable with the skates already.
3. It seemed to be something she probably said to everyone that inquired about skates. It seemed like she had probably said it 100 times or more. Like ripping on Play it Again was part of her daily business practice.
4. She was pushy and acted like I was acting improperly by not paying them to sharpen my skates.

I called Play it Again sports and was told that they had heard of this thing happening in the past.

Your Desired Resolution:
I would appreciate that they change their business practices so that if they want to make a charge against another business, that they first inspect the item being criticized and explain why they would make such claims.

This case will be reviewed by a complaint specialist at the Better Business Bureau, and then forwarded to the business for their response. It is our policy to allow the business 10 working days to respond to your complaint. You will be notified when the business has responded.

That does sound pretty shady.

Does the BBB ever really do anything?
