Tricks for Editing Web Pages to Screw with People

OK, here is something funny you can do to screw with people. Edit live web pages to make them look different than they really are. For example, you could go from this:

to this:

Now that is a frickin hoot.

OK, so here goes.

  1. You gotta use Firefox.
  2. Install the Firebug Add-On. You can go to Tools-Add-ons, click Get Extensions, and search for it, or you can click here. It's up to you.
  3. Restart Firefox.
  4. Go to the web page you want to change and hit F12. Your screen will split into two:

  5. Click Inspect and then click the portion of the page you want to change. You will be able to edit the code in the left side of the Firebug panel. Delete or Add the text or code that controls what pictures are shown. You'll get the hang of it. When you;re done with a particular element, hit enter and click Inspect again and go pick a different element.
  6. When you are all done, hit F12 to hide the Firebug screen and then leave the page for your unspecting visitor. As soon as they hit a link or hit refresh, everything goes back to the way it was.
That's it!

BTW: I really like Karen Hatch and if she doesn't think this is funny I will let her publicly humiliate me on her blog, which gets way more hits.
