Blogging and Self Censorship
The other day I posted a blog regarding gay marriage and abortion, but I took it down. Not because it was offensive, but because I haven't really decided yet if I want to post about certain things on my blog. Maybe someone will read my work blog and search and find this one and then see that I am criticizing the bible. Or maybe someone who feels that government should control who marries who (Alabama's citizens voted 59% to 41% in 2000 to repeal their ban on interracial marriage) will read my blog and not want to hire me, or will write bad things about me. The abortion things I just felt should be taken down because-- well, something will never be decided. If you are on one side of the abortion debate, you think the other side is completely nuts. Theres really no use talking about it.
So...anyway. I am thinking of getting my own domain again and hosting my blog on it, and password protecting it. Then only people that know me will be able to see what I really think. But is that really being honest? Is that really fair? No. Only three people on my Christmas list even cared to visit my Christmas Blog, so maybe they don't deserve my true thoughts anyway.
Looking at my clock, it's 11:52 pm. Eight more minutes in the day. . .
(thinks)
Ok here are some random thoughts:
- A Blog should be like a memoir when when you start it you are at the beginning and as you read through it, you approach the present day. Then people wouldn't miss a lot of the stuff I have written that I think is pretty funny.
- I don't know if the IBM blogs will happen because the IBM websites are really locked down. It seems like it will take a lot of work to get one going that doesn't compete with our restricted "Incident Summaries." I haven't decided what to do about that.
- Sandy and I are planning to remodel our bathroom and the tub we both like the best is 24 inches deep and $1800. Probably not gonna happen.
- 11:55
- I just fininshed reading a Daredevil comic book by Frank Miller. Sucks compared to Sin City.
- I've been reading a lot by Edward Abbey. Check him out.
- I wish that Jim and Mike would write more blog entries. I don't know if Carol has given up on hers yet.
- Queen plays this Sunday at the Xcel Center. Should be a good concert, but no one can equal Freddy. I wonder what he would have thought about gay marriage?
- One more minute.
- I know that when I go ustairs the dog will be sleeping on my pillow and I will move her to the floor. That doesn't make me a bad person, it just makes for a dog that doesn't understand that history repeats itself.
I spell checked this post and put in a time of 12 am on March 24 as the post date and time. Then I read this and came back and changed the post time to 12:01 am. It's actually 12:12, but who cares? It's the thought that counts.
