Experimenting with IBMers
In the company I work at, our halls and breakroom are filled with posters for African American heritage month and lists of Black inventors, but the TV is what people watch. No one reads those lists to see who intented the mail drop, or the cell phone, or bio-engineered peanuts. Instead, our tube is turned to FOX News and the people in the break room stare at it while they eat.
Here is my plan, I am going to find out how people really feel about diversity by changing the TV channel in our break room from FOX News to BET and seeing how often it is changed back.
We'll see what happens. I'll check every hour (or try to) and see what the channel is on, and if it's not on BET, I'll flip it back if people are not watching. Only takes but a minute to walk down from my desk. A good excuse to stretch my legs, too.
Thursday, April 6
12:30 pm - Changed it from FOX News to BET.1 pm - Back on FOX News. 2 people watching the channel. I didn't change it back.
2:28 pm - Still on FOX News. 2 people talking, but no one watching. Changed it to BET.
Friday, April 7
7 am - On the Weather Channel. Changed to BET where they are showing little children starving in Africa. That's weather related, too.1 pm - On FOX News but someone watching.
3 pm - On FOX News. Flipped it to BET.

That is awesome. I am going to try that at my work. Man, I hate the FOX propaganda machine.
